Karen Flores

CEO

Karen Flores graduated with honors in Administration and Business Management. She studied economics and public policy, social communications and public relations, and social investment at ITAM (the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico). She also studied languages and protocol at the American English Academy in Chicago, Illinois. With more than 17 years of experience in the mining sector, Karen has held positions in both public administration and private industry. Between 2007 and 2014, Karen used to work in the Undersecretariat for Mining of the Ministry of Economy, holding various positions such as Advisor, Head of Analysis and Information, Chief of Staff, General Manager of the Undersecretary’s Office, among others. She has also played an active role in discussion forums and working groups that promote the interests of the mining industry in Mexico and other countries such as Canada, China and England.   In 2014 she joined the Agnico Eagle team as the Head of Corporate and Government Relations for the Mexico Division. She represented the interests of the company before government entities, chambers of commerce, and trade associations. Karen has extensive experience working in the field, promoting mining communities in cooperation with a group of highly skilled professionals, as well as successful negotiation, communication, and sustainability strategies. She has represented Agnico Eagle in national and international forums, as well as managed the social and governmental aspects of the due diligence process for new projects in Mexico and Latin America (Panama and Brazil). Karen was a member of the Steering Committee of the Mining Chamber of Mexico and an active member of several of its commissions. She is part of the Board of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CANCHAM), where she chairs the Inclusion and Women Building Business committee. She was an active member of the Association of Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and Geologists of Mexico (AIMMGM), holding different honorary positions such as Vice- President of Government Affairs, Communications Coordinator of Mexico District, and Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol for the XXXI and XXXII International Mining Conventions. Karen is part of the founding group of WIM Women Mexico, a subsidiary of Women in Mining International. In September 2019, the Mining Chamber of Mexico selected Karen to serve as its Chief Executive Officer, a position she currently holds. She is the first woman in the history of the organization to serve in this capacity. She has been recognized for three consecutive years by Forbes Mexico magazine, and by Expansión as one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Mexico, as a pioneer in mining leadership. And as one of the 500 most influential people in Latin America 2023, by Bloomberg.
