Michael Green

Michael Green is Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Tier1 Alpha Asset Management and Senior Advisor to Tier1 Alpha Research.Previously, Green served as Chief Strategist and Portfolio Manager at Simplify Asset Management, where he designed and managed multiple ETFs as the firm grew to approximately $14 billion in assets. Before that, he was one of two portfolio managers at Thiel Macro and founded Ice Farm Capital, a global macro hedge fund seeded by Soros Fund Management. From 2006 to 2014, he founded and led the New York office of Canyon Capital Advisors, establishing the firm's global macro strategies and managing more than $5 billion of exposure across equity, credit, currency, and commodity markets. Earlier in his career, he held roles at Royce & Associates, Moody Aldrich Partners, Bain & Company, and The Parthenon Group, and co-founded ValuAdd Software Solutions.Green's research on the structural consequences of the shift from active to passive investing has been presented to central banks and international financial institutions and was the subject of Institutional Investor's 2025 profile, "Why Michael Green Is Known as the Cassandra of Passive Investing." He is a graduate of the Wharton School and a CFA charterholder.
